Minnesota Twin leadoff hitters have hit .191/.238/.234 so far, as pointed out by Brandon Warne of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.
Warne opines the idea of catcher Joe Mauer batting leadoff is not that far-fetched. Warne also says that general manager Terry Ryan is warming to the idea.
"Twins general manager Terry Ryan seemed to, albeit briefly, suggest Saturday that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Mauer bat leadoff. But he left it up to Gardenhire, because, after all he noted, it’s the manager’s job to write the lineup."
Mauer isn’t a prototypical leadoff hitter, but he gets on base and would create more opportunities for batters behind him.
