Although it wasn’t a winning year for the Minnesota Vikings, there’s no doubt it was an entertaining one. If you think about it, other than defensive improvement, really nothing went according to plan.
Matt Casselwas supposed to be the man under center,
Adrian Petersonwas supposed to help,
Cordarrelle Pattersonwas supposed to break out and
Kyle Rudolphwas supposed to be in for a big year.
None of those things came true, but that allowed for a few other players to step up. And step up they did.
Amidst all of the turmoil, the Vikings finished middle of the pack defensively. A stark improvement from last year. They went from 31st to 7th in pass defense and compiled 41 sacks.
Mostly due an an awful stretch of football in October, Vikings offense was 27th in the league in yards. As Teddy got better, the offense got better. They were able to move the ball rather effectively in the final third of the season.
There’s a lot of excitement brewing for next season and these five players are huge parts of the reason why. They stepped up through adversity and helped the Vikings remain a competitive team.
