Poll: Would You Boo Kevin Love?

It’s something we’ve been thinking about since the end of the 2013-2014 NBA season: the day Kevin Love returns to the Target Center. And it’s coming up very soon.

It’s well-known that Love had no intentions of extending his career in Minnesota. In fact, it was quite a messy divorce as he continued to hint that his days as a member of the Timberwolves were numbered. He never flat out said he wanted to book the first flight out of town, but his commitment to the team was very questionable. It was never, “I’m a member of the Timberwolves right now and I am going to play my best. ” It was always, “My agent is taking care of it and I hope it works out for all parties involved.”

Was he justified in showing his displeasure towards Minnesota? There are two sides to that one.

Some will say he should have kept his mouth shut and played. Whether or not he was winning, he was making millions of dollars to play a game. And up until he started inching towards the door, the fans absolutely adored him. The team was his and instead of owning up to it and taking charge, he wanted to take the easy way out and move to a contender. Those angry fans have a point.

The other group will argue that Love played his first six seasons in Minnesota and never even came close to tasting the playoffs, so why would he want to stay? He had already spent almost half of his career in a completely desolate wasteland when it comes to basketball. Sorry to be so honest, but in recent history the Wolves might be the worst franchise in the NBA. Those who say he understandably left for greener pastures also have a point.

I tend to side with those who would not boo the 6-10 superstar from UCLA. People who feel disrespected have a point, but I don’t think they are putting themselves in his shoes. He only has one NBA career and wants to win. His notion that winning was unlikely in Minnesota was completely justified.

On Saturday, January 31st, we will find out which way of thinking is more popular when Kevin Love and the Cavaliers travel to Target Center. I hope Love feels some love from the Timberwolves faithful, but my better judgement says otherwise. All signs point a bloodbath of boos and expletives raining over Kevin Love on a bitter night in Minneapolis.
