5. Mikael Granlund Game Winner, Game 3 Against Colorado, 2014 First Round

It is now easy to forget how dire the first round series against the Avalanche was looking. The Wild should have won Game 1 but lost after Colorado tied the game with 13 seconds left off of a turnover and won it in overtime. They also lost Game 2 in Denver, making Game 3 back in St. Paul a virtual must win. The Wild controlled the tempo all game in Game 3 but could not solve Semyon Varlamov. The Wild peppered Varlamov all night but could not manage to get one past the Avalanche goaltender. The good news was that Darcy Kuemper, while not tested nearly as much, was also able to stymie the Avalanche. The game went into overtime, when Mikael Granlund made the play above. He corralled the puck near the dasher, spun, cut across the front of the net and slid it in for the game winner, saving the Wild’s season. The goal would also make one of the next moments on our countdown possible.
