Minnesota Timberwolves Video: Karl-Anthony Towns Sings Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’
Minnesota Timberwolves fans should be excited about the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns, no doubt, but there is not a big need to be excited about his signing voice. Yes, you read that correctly. Artic KAT hit up CBS Radio and the Boomer & Carton show and was asked to sing Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’.
Here is how that turned out:
‘Stay With Me’ is the song that Tom Petty now has songwriting credit on because of the song’s similarities to Petty’s ‘I Won’t Back Down’. Smith claimed that he never heard ‘I Won’t Back Down’ before writing the song which is completely unthinkable. Either that was a horrible excuse from Smith, he lives under a rock or has no taste at all in music. Never deny yourself the hits of Tom Petty.
The above paragraph was written by the guy who sat down and watched a four-hour documentary on Petty last year, so, yeah, there might be a little bias.

Smith’s tune got to number two on the Billboard Hot 100, but was denied the opportunity to be up for a Grammy due to the whole Petty fiasco.
Jeff Lyne of Electric Light Orchestra also got co-writing credit since he wrote ‘I Won’t Back Down’ with Petty. Both were members of the eventual supergroup The Traveling Wilburys along with George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison.
Back to Towns, he also revealed in the interview on Boomer & Carton that he wants to learn how to be a champion from Kevin Garnett. So that’s cute.
