Minnesota Golden Gophers Debut At #34, Scheduled To Take On #1 & #2
It really depends upon who you talk to about the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team and you’ll get a various amount of answers about how the upcoming season will go for the Dinkytown Dwellers. One thing is for certain, the Gophers’ schedule is not too easy.
The first Coaches Poll was released on Thursday and it ranked a multitude of Gopher opponents including the #1 and #2 teams in the nation.
The Gophers will kick off their season against the #2 ranked Texas Christian University Horned Frogs. So if you want to see one of the best teams in all of college football, well, TCU will be at TCF Bank Stadium on Thursday, September 3 for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Our Gophers didn’t quite break the Top 25, but they did receive votes. The Gophers point total added up to #34 in the country which placed them in the good ol’ receiving votes category.
Going around the Big Ten: Michigan State debuted at #6 and Wisconsin was at #18. Nebraska nudged ahead of the Gophers in the not-Top-25 at #33, Penn State was one behind the marron and gold at #35, Illinois was at #39 and Michigan and Maryland brought up the rear tied for #59.
The top 10 in the poll goes like this:

- Georgia
- Florida State
- Auburn
- Michigan State
- Oregon
- Baylor
- Alabama
- TCU
- Ohio State
Ohio State received 62 first place votes. TCU and Alabama were the only others to receive first place votes with both of them notching a single vote.
