Minnesota Twins: Streak snapped, Twins fall to Rays
All good things must come to an end and the Minnesota Twins found that out on Thursday night. The Twins were going for their seventh win in a row and a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, but that was to no avail as the Twins fell 5-4.
It was an opposite game for the Twins as the team beat up on Rays’ starter Drew Smyly. Smyly lasted 4.1 innings while giving up four runs, three earned, to the Twins. The Rays even gave him a two run lead after the first inning thanks to an Evan Longoria sac fly and a Logan Forsythe solo homer off of Tommy Milone.
The Twins would battle back in the second inning, Kurt Suzuki cut the lead in half with an RBI double. Miguel Sano should’ve given the Twins the lead in the third, but he just hit the ball too hard. Sano hit one of the catwalks on an absolute blast, watch it right here, and it only went for an RBI double. Sano wouldn’t score, a run the Twins sure could have used.
The fourth inning saw Eduardo Escobar stay hot with another solo homer after hitting two dingers the night before. Later in the inning, Shane Robinson hit a infield single which scored Suzuki on a throwing error to give the Twins a 4-2 lead at the time.

Milone would start giving the lead up in the fifth. J.P. Arencibia hit a sac fly to cut the lead for the Rays. In the sixth, Joey Butler contributed in tying the game and taking the lead. Butler first hit an RBI single to tie the game. Later in the inning, Suzuki would let a ball pass, allowing Butler to score the winning run.
Milone’s line for the Twins saw 5.1 innings of eight hit, five run, four earned baseball.
The bullpen again looked solid for the Twins. Neal Cotts walked one, but struck out two in an inning of work. And Casey Fien only gave up one hit in 1.1 innings of work.
The offense just couldn’t get going. The ninth inning saw a couple pinch hitters and only one made sense. Eddie Rosario pinch hit for Shane Robinson, okay. Chris Herrmann pinch hit for Byron Buxton… what?!
