Minnesota Vikings trade Gerald Hodges for center Nick Easton and draft pick

The Minnesota Vikings have traded for some depth on the offensive line. On Tuesday afternoon the Vikings traded middle linebacker Gerald Hodges to the San Francisco 49ers for center Nick Easton and a sixth-round draft pick.

Hodges started three of four games for the Vikings this season before being dealt and made 20 tackles so far this season. Easton has not appeared in an NFL game this year or for his entire NFL career.

Easton is early in his career and now on his third team. Easton was an undrafted free agent from Harvard before being signed by the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens dealt Easton to the 49ers this September and now Easton belongs to Minnesota.

The last Vikings center to play college ball at Harvard worked out pretty good for the purple. I think the Vikings would still give Matt Birk the job if he really wanted it right now.

The trade for Minnesota is a little bit of a shock. It seemed as the Vikings were liking what Hodges was doing, but General Manager Rick Spielman wanted to turn the depth at linebacker into something else.

It is a big step for Eric Kendricks who is a rookie this season. Kendricks so far has appeared in all four of the Vikings games registering 17 tackles and a sack so far this season.

Easton will probably not see any playing time for the Vikings unless more injuries occur. Easton wasn’t active for any of the 49ers games so far this season.
