Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in Kobe Bryant’s final game at Target Center.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers will always be connected. We are always picking up a Star Tribune or tuning into WCCO away from being reminded of the Lakers moving from Minneapolis since that team’s former general manager is still covering Minnesota sports like a blanket.

What also makes the Lakers special are the great players that have donned the team’s uniform and Kobe Bryant is one of those great players. Wednesday night was Kobe’s last ever game at Target Center, assuming he doesn’t pull a Michael Jordan on us, and it went in favor of the home team in a 123-122 overtime Timberwolves win.

In 25 minutes of play, Kobe scored 11 points and was the worst plus/minus for the Lakers on the night at -12. The rest of the stars did not disappoint in the game.

Kevin Martin was on fire with 37 points. Karl-Anthony Towns impressed once again with another double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Andrew Wiggins had 19 points and Shabazz Muhammad had 15 off the bench. It was another tough scoring night for Ricky Rubio, but the Spaniard did register 12 assists.

It was a bench brigade for Los Angeles on Wednesday night with both Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell scoring over 20 points of the Laker bench. Randle had 20 points and 12 rebounds while Russell lead the Lakers with 23 points. Louis Williams was the high scorer in the Lakers starting five with 19.

The win gets the Wolves to a record of 9-12 this season with this being only the team’s third home victory. In case you were curious, the Wolves are currently a game behind the eighth place Houston Rockets.

Minnesota next plays on Friday when they hit the road for a divisional matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Tipoff from the Pepsi Center is set for 7:00 central.
