Karl-Anthony Towns is having a heck of a rookie campaign and the proof is in the NBA Rookie of the Month pudding.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Karl-Anthony Towns had another beast of a month. The Minnesota Timberwolves big man has won the KIA NBA Rookie of the Month award for the Western Conference for the month of December. This is the second straight win for KAT as he won the award for the first month, and then some, of the NBA season for October/November.

Towns’ Eastern conference counterpart also won his second straight Rookie of the Month award. The New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis won the honors.

How good was Towns in December? Towns led all rookies in scoring and rebounding and was only second behind Porzingis in blocks. Towns averaged 18.6 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks a game throughout the month of December.

NBA.com points out that throughout the month, Towns notched eight double-doubles, all of which were via double-digit points and rebounds games, and scored a minimum of 20 points in eight games as well. The Timberwolves played 16 games in the month of December.

The two straight Rookie of the Month wins for Towns put him in the driver seat of winning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season. The Wolves are looking for their second straight Rookie of the Year winner after Andrew Wiggins won the award last season.

Towns has another 16 games to impress in the month of January to see if he can win the monthly award for the third straight time.
