With the NBA Draft just two days away, the rumor mill is in full swing. There has been much speculation on who the Minnesota Timberwolves will select. We will know soon enough.

Coming into the draft, there has been much speculation on who the Minnesota Timberwolves will select. There have been rumors of taking a shooter, preferring defensive upside, taking a chance on European upside, and even trading away the pick for a veteran asset.

With the new front office in place, many are not able to get a hold on what will really happen on Thursday night. It will be the first major move of the new era and could be very telling of what Thibodeau and Layden think of the current roster. The pick could impact the team in many ways.

Over the last week, the Minnesota Timberwolves have had workouts with Kentucky’s Jamal Murray, Dragan Bender, and the second workout with Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield. It looks like the Timberwolves are doing their due diligence and taking into account all possible scenarios.

  • First, there were rumors that Kris Dunn wanted to land in Minnesota. He has refused to send medical records out or do individual workouts for any team. Some think this is a risk for teams, due to not knowing his medical records before spending a high pick on him.

Now, in an interview with Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari, Kent Youngblood mentions that Calipari thinks that Murray is the best prospect in the NBA draft. Calipari has a great track record in pumping out NBA prospects for years now.

Here is a quote from Calipari about Head Coach Tom Thibodeau and Jamal Murray.

"[Wolves president of basketball operations and coach Tom Thibodeau] and I are great friends. He helped my career, helped me basketball-wise and every other way. I’m a big fan of Thibs. Jamal? I’m saying this to you and no one else. He loves Minnesota. As a matter of fact, that’s where he’d like to go.’’"

Now this is the second prospect rumored to want to land in Minnesota on Draft night. Minnesota’s situation is appealing as they have all the promise in the world. Murray is also a Kentucky alum, like Karl-Anthony Towns, and of Canadian decent, like Andrew Wiggins.

With Hield having his second workout in front of the Minnesota Timberwolves staff, and Murray in town last week and rumored to want to land in Minnesota, it looks as if the Timberwolves are looking hard at some outside shooting help. This is in my mind the overall biggest need for this team. As much as I would love to have Hield in Minnesota, I will not mind if Murray gets his named called at pick 5.
