Karl-Anthony Towns left off of All-NBA Teams
A lot has been made of the Minnesota Golden Gophers softball team’s seeding snub in the NCAA Tournament, but that is nothing compared to the snub that was handed out on Thursday. Everybody’s favorite Kit-Kat spokesperson, Karl-Anthony Towns, was left off of the All-NBA Teams.
Yes, teams, as in multiple All-NBA squads.
Karl-Anthony Towns was not voted First, Second or Third All-NBA.
By about any measurement, Karl-Anthony Towns is, at least, in the top ten players in the NBA right now. In just two seasons, Towns has helped place himself on a pedestal of the best Timberwolves in franchise history with Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love. Granted, it’s the Timberwolves franchise, but that’s impressive company to be a part of in only two seasons.
Towns this past season averaged 25.1 points per game, 12.3 rebounds per with 2.7 assists per game. The former Kentucky Wildcat shot .542 from the floor and increased his three-point shooting percentage by over 25 points while shooting over three times as many three-point shots in his sophomore season than his rookie season. Towns shot 88 threes his rookie season and shot 275 of them this past season.
KAT finished in the top ten in multiple major statistical categories:
Live Feed
Betsided
- Second in field goals
- Fourth in offensive rebounds
- Seventh in defensive rebounds
- Fifth in total rebounds
- Fifth in points
- Sixth in rebounds per game
- Tenth in blocks per game
- Fourth in offensive win share
- Seventh in win share
- Ninth in value over replacement player
To say the least, it was a pretty darn good season for Towns. Check out his Basketball Reference page for yourself and see the lovely stats.
If there is any consolation, Towns did receive two first-team votes. The voting tally weighs the team votes differently and Towns didn’t quite make the cut in the overall total. Towns did have the highest point total of any player that received votes but didn’t make a squad.
The NBA does list who the 100 person panel is that votes on the All-NBA Teams. You can find that here if you want to kindly ask why they didn’t vote bigger and better for KAT.
All-NBA First Team:
LeBron James (Cleveland)
Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio)
Anthony Davis (New Orleans)
James Harden (Houston)
Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City)
You can see all three teams and those that received votes on NBA.com.
