Looks like Teddy Bridgewater won’t be suiting up for the Minnesota Vikings in the early stages of the season.

Sunday marked the beginning of the end for Mankato as the home of Minnesota Vikings training camp. The southern Minnesota city welcomed in Vikings rookies, quarterbacks and injured players on to Minnesota State University’s campus. Head Coach Mike Zimmer also gave a little bit of a progress report on fan favorite QB Teddy Bridgewater.

If you were hoping that the Vikings were going to be playing Bridgewater early this season, don’t hold your breath. According to Matthew Coller of 1500 ESPN, Coach Zimmer said that it’s likely that Bridgewater will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

"“I think so, but again, I haven’t seen him,” Zimmer said when asked whether Bridgewater would start camp on the PUP list."

According to Coller’s piece and according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if Bridgewater doesn’t play in the first six weeks of the season his contract will carry over into the 2018 season. That nugget makes the Vikings contract situation with Sam Bradford a whole lot more complicated.

The buzz around Bridgewater has been building ever since Bridgewater himself and the team have posted video and photos of the quarterback throwing passes this offseason. The quarterback recently shared images of himself dropping back to pass without a knee brace. We’ll all have to have our eyes glued to Bridgewater’s social media pages over the next month

Coller also asked Zimmer if defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd will also start on the PUP list. Zimmer said this to 1500 about Floyd:

"“He’s improved was the last I’ve heard, but I don’t know where he’s at.”"

As the Vikings open training camp this week in Mankato, the team is already only a couple weeks away from their first preseason game of the year. The first preseason game for the Vikings is set for August 11 as the purple travels to Buffalo to take on the Bills. The preseason slate also features a visit to the Seattle Seahawks and home games against the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins.
