Sylvia Fowles has been named Western Conference Player of the Month for the third consecutive month.

The Minnesota Lynx are a really, really good team. They have a lot of really good players, too. So many great ones that they had four All-Stars this season. One of those awesome players has been named the Western Conference Player of the Month for the third consecutive month. That honor belongs to Sylvia Fowles.

Fowles is only the third player in WNBA history to win the Western Conference Player of the Month for the first three months of the season.

Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm went on to win the MVP award in 2010. Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks in 2012 did not win the MVP award, that season’s MVP award went to Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun.

This season, Fowles has started in all 21 of the Lynx’s games. Fowles is averaging 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 assists per game this season. The 20.9 points is the highest average in a season, so far, for Fowles. She has only averaged 20 points in one other season and that was in 2011 with the Chicago Sky. That is all while Fowles is shooting her best ever percentage from the field at a .681 mark.

Fowles has been beyond dominant this season. This was Fowles’ first season making the All-Star Game as a member of the Lynx after three appearances with the Sky. It might be even more impressive that Fowles is doing this on a team stacked with stars like Maya Moore, Semione Augustus and Lindsay Whalen.

It is seen as Fowles is a clear cut favorite to be the WNBA MVP this season, but it is not an easy award to win. In the last eight seasons, eight different players have won the award. Dominant players like Moore, Diana Taurasi and Elena Delle Donne have all only won the award once in their storied careers.

Fowles will try to add on to her MVP case and win another Player of the Month award when the Lynx get back in action on Thursday when the Lynx take on the Atlanta Dream in St. Paul. Tip is set for 7:00.
