McKinnon made his case to return kicks by returning one 108 yards to paydirt. That score came right after the defense gave up the long touchdown on a screen pass. Big plays like that make me believe McKinnon can contribute more than just out of the backfield.
-
- His biggest play came when he returned a punt from the 5-yard line to the Vikings’ 37-yard line. That return sparked the final game-winning drive and showed the importance of flipping the field on special teams.
- Koehn handled the kicking duties with mixed results. By making a 58-yard field goal that would have been good from 65, the rookie looked on easy-street but then he missed a 47-yarder on the next drive.
- Ryan Quigley started at punter with three punts and Taylor Symmank had two. Both looked good on one punt and terrible on another. Symmank had another 37-yard shank; Quigley a 35-yarder. Neither punter is running away with the gig but the slight edge goes to the directional expert in Quigley.
On a night in which the fans were hyped to see the first-team light it up, they were witness to shakiness to start but left with cautious optimism. A win is still a win, right?
