Adrian Peterson: We didn’t need him

Many rational Vikings fans would tell you that Adrian Peterson would drop off soon. It just wasn’t all there in our last glimpses of the running back in purple. It still wasn’t there when he was a member of the opposing locker room at U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday night.

Adrian had one good run in the game. It was on his first carry as a member of the Saints where he pushed a pile of humanity a few yards forward. He didn’t go forward too much after that, though.

Peterson only had six carries in the game for 18 yards. Vikings stud rookie Dalvin Cook had 22 carries for 127 yards in his NFL debut. Plus, Cook didn’t get in a sideline argument with his head coach.

ESPN’s cameras caught Peterson jawing at his head coach Sean Payton on the sideline of Monday night’s game. As the game was getting further out of reach from the Saints, Peterson and Payton undeniably exchanged some words, even if they refute the happening now.

Peterson looked frustrated on the sideline all game long as Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram got more of the playing time in the New Orleans backfield.

The Vikings simply didn’t need Peterson anymore or the drama that he seems to bring with him. We learned on Monday that it was surely the right move for Adrian to ride out on the camel that he rode in on.
