Minnesota Timberwolves and Andrew Wiggins close to signing contract extension
Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves should agree to a max contract extension by the weekend.
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Andrew Wiggins have been close on agreeing to a contract extension for a while now. Things got complicated on the simplest of contract extensions when Wiggins fired his agent earlier this summer. It now appears that Wiggins and the team will be inking the max contract extension before training camp kicks into high gear this weekend.
Darren Wolfson of KSTP tweeted out this tidbit after a conversation with Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.
There is not a whole lot of negotiating for this deal. It’s a max deal and that’s that. It is the type of contract that players of Wiggins’ skill set and age are receiving. It’s a pretty cut and dry extension.

Wiggins, of course, has a lot of things to work on in his young NBA career. Wiggins has shown some flashes of brilliance in his career, especially on the offensive side of the ball. On the other side, though, by some metrics, Wiggins is one of the worst defenders in the NBA which is unacceptable. Wiggins doesn’t need to be a All-Defensive player, but he can’t be the worst In the league.
If Wiggins can continue to improve his game, Wiggins is likely to be the third head of the Timberwolves’ three-headed monster that currently has Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler. Wiggins has the skillset to join that club and hopefully he has the desire to join that level of play in the NBA.
