Aaron Brooks is reunited with former coach Tom Thibodeau and a good fit for the Minnesota Timberwolves bench.

A little over a month ago, we wrote that Aaron Brooks was on Minnesota Timberwolves’ Head Coach Tom Thibodeau’s radar for bench depth. He was seeking defense and three point shooting. Brooks, a 12 year veteran is a solid acquisition for this team. He has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Timberwolves  for the 2017 – 2018 campaign.

The strength in Brooks’ game is in his shooting and defense. Over his career, he has averaged 37% from three-point range and 41.3 % overall. He has also averaged 10.1 points per game in nearly 20 minutes of action. Brooks is a dogged and elite on ball defender who will challenge Tyus Jones for back up minutes behind Jeff Teague.

Brooks played for Indiana last season and for the Bulls from 2014 to 2016. Thibodeau was the coach in Chicago at that time and is a fan of Brooks. Like many coaches, Thibs has brought players to his squad that he coached previously. With the addition of Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson to the promising youth this year, the Twolves are set to run into the playoffs.

The 32-year-old Brooks will lift the number of guaranteed contracts to 13 for the Timberwolves. They will enter training camp at this number plus other invitees. There is a nice balance on the roster between guards, wings and bigs. Thibodeau and management will keep a couple of roster spots open for other moves or signings as warranted.

The Wolves get started September 22nd with media day in Minneapolis. They then fly to San Diego for camp.

The Timberwolves first exhibition game is in L.A. against the Lakers on Saturday, September 30th. They then travel to China, where they will meet Golden State for two more warm-ups. The real season opens in San Antonio against the Spurs on October 18th.
