Be proud, Minnesota Timberwolves fans! You are part of one of the best fandoms in the world.

The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t made the playoffs since 2003-2004. Heck, the team hasn’t been that competitive in more than about three seasons since but that doesn’t mean the fanbase went away. No, in fact the Timberwolves have one of the strongest fanbases in the NBA.

FanSided, our mothership (sorry ESPN), is going to rank the top fandoms in the world with the Fandom 250. They released the 12 NBA teams that will make the list and all eyes were north when the Timberwolves cracked the list.

Along with the Timberwolves, the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors all made the Fandom 250 list out of the NBA division.

You might be asking, what is the Fandom 250? It is FanSided’s attempt to rank the top 250 fandoms in the world. It’s not just sports, either. It’ll go way beyond that. The Fandom 250 is broken into a number of categories that span the population. You’ll see fandoms from NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, Soccer, NCAA, Sports Figures, Celebrities, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Comics, Gaming, Brands, Internet Famous and , my personal favorite, Other.

We won’t know the final ranking until December 12, but the qualifying fandoms will be announced every Tuesday leading up to the announcement. So far only the NBA and the Music fandoms have been announced, so if you’re a diehard Timberwolves fan and say Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran fan, well, you might have a hard time cheering for only one fandom.

Before the Fandom 250 is unveiled, you can try and influence the editors into thinking your fandom is more deserving than others. Head on over to FanSided’s page about the NBA fandoms and vote, assumedly, for the Timberwolves to be on the top of the list.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll let you know if any other Minnesota teams make the list. Of course, we’ll also let you know where the Timberwolves finish in the Fandom 250 come December 12.
