At the owners meetings in Florida, Mike Zimmer was very honest and candid about the things that have taken place so far this offseason with his team and some of his plans going forward.

Mike Zimmer addressed the assembled media at the owners meetings in Orlando, FL on Tuesday. He covered a wide range of topics including Teddy, Sharrif Floyd’s recent comments and the adjustment period for his new Quarterback.

Regarding Kirk Cousins and the offense they will be running, Zimmer made it very clear that the Vikings will be catering their offense to the things that Cousins does best. One of the reasons they were so successful on offense last season was their ability to adjust their offensive game plan to what Case Keenum was able to do best on the football field.

“To me, the most important thing is to do what the quarterback does” Zimmer said, “If he does it, let’s do it”.

It was not long ago that we were watching Sam Bradford get served up to defensive linemen on a platter because of a certain offensive coordinator’s inability to change his scheme based on his personnel, or lack there of. It is a wonderful sign that Zimmer is waiting to talk to Cousins before deciding on the details of the offense they will be asking Cousins to run.

When asked about the Cousins contract affecting the Vikings ability to resign defensive players, as he mentioned in Indianapolis during the combine, Zimmer said “I mentioned that a lot of times to those guys, but sometimes I said that to the media to make them think were going in a different direction as well.” High quality non-answer/admission of guilt from the head coach, there.

All joking aside, Zimmer still believes in his defense and said that although there has been talk about their play at the end of the season, “I have to look at the entirety of the season, the Philly game, none of us played good.” adding, “We’re talking about five quarters.”
