In Parise and Suter’s first year with the Wild, the team was in a fight to make the playoffs come the trade deadline (Sound familiar?). Fletcher decided he needed scoring so he went out and got Pominville, Buffalo’s captain at the time. As I have detailed before, the move has paid big dividends for Minnesota. Pominville helped the Wild get over the hump and make the playoffs in 2013. He scored 30 goals in 2013-14 and is one of the teams most important players this year. Meanwhile, Larsson and Hackett have not made an impact in the NHL. Hackett will have more of a chance now since the Sabres traded away both of their goalies.
Still, Pominville has been a steadying force for the Wild for the past couple of seasons. He is an integral part of the top few lines as well as playing on special teams. If the Wild make another run in the playoffs, I expect him to be a reason why.
