Minnesota Lynx fall to Liberty, fourth loss in five games

What is happening to our champions? The Minnesota Lynx have officially hit a rough patch with only five games remaining in the regular season. On Friday night the Lynx dropped their fourth game out of five losing to the New York Liberty by a score of 81-68.

The Minnesota Lynx have already clinched a playoff berth, so there is no worry that the Lynx will fall out of that, but it’s starting to get alarming.

Maya Moore again went for 25 points and had nine rebounds, but she was about the only highlight for the Lynx again. Sylvia Fowles was the only other Lynx player in double-digits with 18 points and she notched a double-double by grabbing ten rebounds.

Lindsay Whalen only put in eight points and dished out four assists. One of the most alarming things is that Rebekkah Brunson was kept scoreless throughout the game for the Lynx. Brunson was a huge part of the Lynx’s dominance early this season and she needs to be putting up points and grabbing more rebounds, she only grabbed three on Friday, if the Lynx are hoping to make a deep playoff run this year.

Epiphanny Prince was the high scorer for the Liberty on Friday night with 22 points. Liberty center Tina Charles also notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The well-known Swin Cash had only eight points in the Liberty victory.

The Liberty absolutely dominated in the paint on Friday having a 40-28 advantage down low. New York won despite having more turnovers than Minnesota with Minnesota turning it over eight times and the Liberty 14.

The first place Lynx next play on Sunday when they take on the second place Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx played the Mercury only two games ago and lost 79-67. The Mercury have a 3-1 series lead for this season series and the two will likely face off in the playoffs.
