Welcome to the first edition of Sota Scribblings, a, hopefully frequent, piece featuring quick hit thoughts and observations on the Minnesota sports scene.

Here at Sporting Sota we have the pleasure and honor of getting to cover all things Minnesota sports. Everything is on the table which is a whole lot of fun and stirs up a whole lot of thoughts in our heads. Welcome to the first edition of Sota Scribblings where yours truly, Collin Kottke, will share some quick thoughts on various topics throughout the Minnesota sporting scene.

Minnesota Vikings scribblings:

  • Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater finally talked to the media today. This was the first time since Bridgewater’s brutal injury last preseason that he has talked to the media. That has to be a record amount of time for a non-retired quarterback that has starting potential to go without speaking to news outlets.
  • This is the first and last training camp trip to Mankato for Sam Bradford. Was Brett Favre the only other Vikings starting quarterback to start over 90% of the games in a season and avoid Mankato?

Minnesota Twins scribblings:

  • The Minnesota Twins traded catcher John Ryan Murphy to the Arizona Diamonbacks, but this isn’t the first time in recent history that Minnesota sent a catcher to the desert. Not that long ago, the Twins also sent Chris Herrmann out to the Diamondbacks.
  • The possibility of Jaime Garcia starting only one game for the Twins and then being traded reminds me of Rasheed Wallace only playing for one game with the Atlanta Hawks in 2003-04 after being traded by the Portland Trailblazers. The Hawks then moved Wallace to the Detroit Pistons.
  • Billy Joel is playing Target Field on Friday night and Florida Georgia Line, Backstreet Boys and Nelly are hitting the field on Saturday night. Target Field has been a great venue both times that I’ve attended a concert there (Paul McCartney and the Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Cole Swindell, Old Dominion parade). If you haven’t seen a concert at Target Field yet, I’d highly recommend it.

Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Golden Gophers scribblings:

  • I didn’t realize that The Barn didn’t have air conditioning. We found this out when the Minnesota Lynx announced that their home playoff games will be held at the University of Minnesota.
  • Too bad that The Barn doesn’t have air conditioning, it’d been neat to see a professional team play all season long at Williams Arena.
  • We are less than a week away from Minnesota Golden Gopher football head coach P.J. Fleck starring in a reality show on ESPNU.
