How the big four Minnesota teams can win a championship by the next eclipse
The eclipse came and went under cloudy skies in the state of Minnesota but the skies of the sports teams in Minnesota might be a lot brighter for the next solar eclipse.
Minnesota wasn’t in the path of totality for the solar eclipse on Monday. Clouds and rain rolled in, too, which made my non-purchase of eclipse glasses look like a decent idea. At least that is what I keep telling myself instead of admitting that it didn’t even cross my mind to try to buy those glasses until early Sunday morning.
On 1500ESPN’s ‘Mackey and Judd’ show this morning, Judd Zulgad and Matthew Coller threw out the question of what non-Minnesota Lynx team will win a championship by the time the next total solar eclipse hits the United States in 2024. In very non-Judd-like fashion, I thought about how all those Minnesota sports teams can win a championship in the next seven years.
Let’s jump right into some reasons how each team will win a championship by April 8, 2024.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings already have a dynamic defense and that will just keep getting better over the next handful of years. Stefon Diggs will be a world-class wide receiver, Dalvin Cook will dominate the running game and the Vikings will somewhere find a great quarterback to lead them to the Super Bowl. That quarterback could be Sam Bradford, Teddy Bridgewater or someone not on the current roster, but that is how the Vikings eclipse a title by 2024.
Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins are overachieving this season which builds a great path to championship success for the team. Miguel Sano will need to cut down on strikeouts but still keep knocking the cover off the ball. Byron Buxton needs to play like he has been for about the last month for a whole season. Jose Berrios needs to develop into a Cy Young award contender and the Twins need to find another three or so starting arms to help Berrios out. If that all happens, Target Field will be the host of championship baseball in the month of October before 2024.

LeBron James comes to town. That would help but it doesn’t need to happen. The Minnesota Timberwolves already have two of the best players in the NBA with Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns. To win a championship, the Wolves will need Andrew Wiggins to develop to join KAT and Butler on that level. After the bench is strengthened up, the Wolves might just be the best bet to truly win a championship by 2024.
Minnesota Wild
I will admit right here that I am not a great hockey mind. That is mainly due to the fact that there isn’t a whole lot of hockey knowledge in my mind, truthfully. What I do know is that the Minnesota Wild have a lot of young players ready to pop and that will help the Wild advance to a championship. Plus, in hockey, a hot goalie gets you a long way. The state of hockey is due for a championship before 2024.
