The Byron Buxton we were waiting for has arrived
Byron Buxton is doing everything that Minnesota Twins fans were hoping for and more.
Minnesota Twins fans have been hearing about Byron Buxton for a long time. Since the day he was drafted into the organization, Buxton has been built up into an absolute stud. The comparisons of Buxton’s play started pouring in with some even saying that Buxton had a floor of Torii Hunter and a ceiling of basically Willie Mays. Then the beginning of the 2017 season happened.
The Twins were counting on Buxton to help them improve in the 2017 campaign, but it didn’t start out that way. Buxton was hitting in the .100’s and talk was brought up again about Buxton maybe needing to be sent down to Triple-A Rochester. That demotion never happened.
What has now happened is what Twins fans were hoping for. Buxton is now playing like the stud that has been predicted and projected for years. In recent weeks, Buxton has been hitting well, shown power, his speed and his amazing glove. Buxton is showing great tools.

The centerfielder has been hitting so well that he has been moved into the middle of the lineup. That move has paid off for manager Paul Molitor. For instance, on Friday, Buxton was hitting third in the order and went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Buxton’s offensive performance helped bring the Twins to a 6-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Twins will need Buxton to keep playing this way if they want to find themselves in the playoffs in a little over a month. With mediocre pitching involved, the skills that Buxton brings to the field for Minnesota can help alleviate those pitching woes.
Buxton will only continue to get better as the years go on. The 23-year-old has his whole prime ahead of him. He’s finally playing like he’s a prime player and the Twins need to take advantage of that.
