It’s time for another edition of Sota Scribblings! Featuring quick hit thoughts and observations on the Minnesota sports scene from the, so called, site expert of Sporting Sota.

The Minnesota is simply the home of winners right now. The Minnesota Vikings had a walk-off two-point conversion win and the Minnesota Twins won a series in Toronto. Things are coming up Minnesota with Minnesota Golden Gopher football starting this week, too. Let’s take a look at some more news, notes, thoughts and observations from around the Minnesota sporting scene.

Minnesota Vikings

  • I know it is only the preseason, but, boy, am I a little worried about the offensive line. The starting o-line did not have a good showing against the 49ers on Sunday.
  • The Vikings backup quarterbacks are absolute gamers. Both Case Keenum and Taylor Heinicke seem to not be good practice QBs, but both show some great flashes in actual games.
    • Heck, Heinicke keeps playing hurt and dove for the endzone in a game that doesn’t matter. Total gamer.
  • I’d love to see Jerick McKinnon be the return man for the Vikings. It’d greatly increase the value of the running back who now finds himself in a crowded backfield.

Minnesota Twins

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: I’m still a little befuddled on how these Twins are still in playoff contention.

That being said, at this point, I think they’ll get into the playoffs. They are the best team going for that second Wild Card spot which is a weird thing to say.

More from Sporting Sota

  • Didn’t think that Byron Buxton would be getting an American League Player of the Week award this season, but that has now happened. Dude is a stud.
  • I don’t blame people for not buying into this Twins team. It’s hard to buy in on a team that has been mostly horrible the last half-decade.

    Minnesota Golden Gophers

    • I know it has to do with State Fair parking and such, but it’d be nice if the Gophers would be able to open their season on a Saturday.
    • I think the Gophers will overachieve for a first year head coach in P.J. Fleck, but simply being bowl eligible should be considered a success this season.
