The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking for bench depth and they’ve worked out Nate Robinson for a bench spot.

The NBA season is about here and that means the rumor mill is churning out some interesting tidbits on who the teams are working out. The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the midst of working out a lot of folks to round out their bench, but one of the more notable names is Nate Robinson.

The modern Spud Webb posted on Instagram confirming that he was in the Timberwolves facilities recently.

Darren Wolfson of KSTP reported that Robinson was amongst a trio of NBA free agents in to work out for head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Our friends at Bleacher Report say the Wolves don’t need much more at the point guard position, but I do think that is a matter of opinion and not a resounding stance around the league. Currently the Wolves have Jeff Teague at the starting point guard slot and Tyus Jones as the backup. The combo is solid, but an upgrade or at least backup to Jones would be an admirable thought for the team.

Robinson, although, might not be the best option, he is an intriguing option. Robinson is best known for being short, but also being super athletic. He has starred in the All-Star Weekend’s Slam Dunk Contests and the Timberwolves always seem to have a dunker on their team be it Gerald Green or Zach LaVine.

Robinson’s last appearance in the NBA may not be as far back in history as Stephon Marbury, Robinson hasn’t exactly been in the league recently either. Robinson’s last appearance in the NBA came in the 2015-16 season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 5-9 guard hasn’t played in over 45 NBA games since the 2012-13 season.

Last season, Robinson appeared with the Delaware 87ers in the NBA G League and has also recently appeared in the Venezuelan League, according to Bleacher Report.

The 33-year-old might have some years left in the league. He has played for Thibodeau before. In fact, the only time Robinson played all 82 games in a season was with Thibs and the Chicago Bulls in 2012-13.
